1) Letterboxing: Letterboxing is a combination of treasure hunting and orienteering with an opportunity for artistic expression as well. .A letterbox is a plastic, screw-top bottle that contains a small notebook and a unique rubber stamp. This hobby consists of using clues, maps, and compasses to find the hidden containers. Once you find the container there is a reward for your effort. A hint? It has to do with rubber stamps…

2) Fantasy Sports: http://www.Wikipedia.org describes a fantasy sport as “A game where fantasy owners build a team that competes against other fantasy owners based on the statistics generated by individual players or teams of a professional sport…In fantasy sports there is the ability to trade, cut, and sign players, like a real sports owner.”

3) Nia: According to the Nia Now website: “Nia is movement-medicine for the body and soul.” “Nia simultaneously addresses the body, mind, emotions, and spirit, and puts them on the “same page” using music, movement and personal expression to integrate one’s neurology (including the mind, emotions, and spirit) with one’s outer body, or musculature. To achieve this whole-being integration, Nia addresses the whole person using a comprehensive, holistic exercise approach designed with a combination of nine classic movement forms.”

4) Birdwatching (also called Birding): This hobby is the recreational pastime of observing wild birds. Of course, as with all of these hobbies, you can simply learn a little bit about it as a novice or become a serious amateur. Either way, you are gaining new skills as you learn about birds. Melissa Mayntz who is a birding and wild bird guide at About.com states that “There are more than 50 million birders in the United States and millions more throughout the world.”

5) Scrapbooking and consider Digital Scrapbooking too. Scrapbooking can bring great enjoyment for little money, especially if you “shop at home.” Think old maps, greeting cards from previous years, snippets of wrapping paper…you get the idea. And you can have at-home scrapbook socials—where you share items to work on your scrapbooks with family and friends. In addition, there are many discount supply stores nowadays for this popular pastime, both offline and online. And you can find great sales at craft stores for assorted supplies in their “scrapbook/scrapbooking” aisles. And don’t forget “Digital Scrapbooking”—online how-to classes are readily available.
