So, pour the Champagne, here are some New Year 2009 tips for new cash and a new money mindset—a new attitude.
Happy New Year from Secrets For Money!

(1) From Mara Rogers of http:www.SecretsforMoney.info:

“The New Year 2009 marks the continuation of a world that is changing quickly.  This is the era of transformation.

There will be many positive results that spring forth from the current economic landscape. You may think the future is bleak due to the current ‘recession’, but it is not, in fact the future it is going to be incredibly wonderful—change brings opportunity!
During a recession money changes hands that is true, why not have that money come into your hands! Why not find out in what ways you may need to reinvent yourself to take advantage of this current economic condition.  How can you leverage it while helping yourself and others at the same time?

And remember, despite what appears to be a ’storm’ around you, you can still feel ‘calm waters’ within—you can still have inner peace, and take care of your personal economy while doing so.  And I believe that the exterior recession will probably ‘end’ around Autumn of 2009, though there will be still some ripple effects into 2010.

The world’s pace is very rapid now, so this means even quicker change for us all, this will be very apparent in 2009.  The way people think and their interests are beginning to shift. This means business will be forced to be done differently. As a result new opportunities will be created.  You can prosper.

This new world will require a new game plan and a new way of thinking, and it can bring you new money.

Ask yourself what do you really want?  Then find a way to do it! But be patient with yourself, this is a process.

Ask yourself, if money wasn’t an issue, and I was a billionaire already, what would I do and how would I do things differently, and most importantly how would I think and feel differently?  Your answers to these questions will reveal your path to your personal fortune, and that ‘fortune’ isn’t just about money. It is about all the wealth currencies like what we write about here at Secrets for Money—the wealth currencies of money, time, health, and love! You need them all to lead a joyous life of freedom.

It will be essential in 2009 to learn how to leverage, to educate yourself on ways to creative passive, residual income, to think more interdependently, and to co-create your life the way you want it to be. Now is the time.”

(2) “2009 will signal an about-face in the way that some people view their career and their money.  For a very long time, everyone was all about working as hard as they could to “get ahead”; only to watch their retirement and savings dwindle away even after working so much.  So in this new economy, I think people will start to work to live instead of live to work – they will be more aware of how and where they spend their money, how much they actually need to acquire to live their chosen lifestyle, and re-evaluate what they are willing to do to get there.  Even with hard work, it can all go away in an instant – so what becomes most important in life?”

(3) “I recommend Automating your finances.  Automating my finances kept us on track to reducing our car loan from 4k to $700. in one year. It also empowered us to build an emergency fund and pay our bills on one steady income. Automating deposits helps keep retirement plans going.”

(4) “Before you make your first big purchase.  Take 24 hours to think about it and ask yourself these three questions: Do I need this item? Am I getting the best price? How will this affect my future finances?”

(5) “The secret to financial success is to spend less than you earn and earn more than you spend. The rest will take care of itself.”

(6) “Automate your short-term savings into a separate savings account. Do this by opening up an online savings account with a bank like ING Direct or FNBO Direct. Then provide the account and routing number to your employer and designate an amount you want to contribute every month. Setting this up for automation will make sure this happens regularly, and outing it into a separate account will increase the likelihood that you won’t touch it.”

(7) “In 2009 make sure to define your priorities and then live by them. You can’t buy every little thing you want, but when you prioritize, you can make a plan to fulfill your highest financial priorities.”

—From http://www.BeingFrugal.net

(8) “The only ones truly responsible for our money is ourselves, so it is highly important that we keep abreast of our finances and investments, and that we continue to educate ourselves in the realm of personal finance.  Keep a close eye on your money, as nobody else will do a better job of it.  And don’t forget to always diversify.”

(9) “My challenge to myself and everyone for 2009 is to strive for a more modest lifestyle and get in the habit of truly treasuring and using the things we do have.  If we pause to study every book, show off every shoe, master every game, and savor every bath product that we already own – and take the time to appreciate and care for each thing – then there are few new things you’ll find the time or reason to purchase in 2009!  This will not only better your budget, but it will improve your well-being and maybe even your personal outlook.  My challenge in short is for everyone is to de-clutter and purchase less stuff.  Put extra funds towards savings or retirement – or at least towards meaningful experiences instead of consumer items.”
